“World braced for terminator 2” (GM food: special report ) in de Britse krant The Guardian van Wednesday 6 October 1999.

The Guardian schrijft: “Monsanto's pledge not to commercialise the "terminator" technology that genetically programmes plants to bear sterile seeds was yesterday hailed as a significant victory for developing countries and for farmers around the world, but others dismissed it as little more than a public relations exercise.”

Ook toen zag men ernstige gevaren.

"The fears about terminator are widespread in developing countries. In the Philippines, Neth Danos of the South-east Asian Regional Institute for Community Education said: "Farmers here know about the terminator and are telling their governments to reject the patent. The terminator could be the greatest threat to the well-being of poor farmers we have ever faced.""

(Dat ze bijvoorbeeld het gruwelijke ontbladeringsmiddel Agent Orange leverden voor het Amerikaanse leger in Vietnam was ook al lang bekend).

Misschien is het toch niet helemaal juist dat sites beweren en er mensen zijn die denken dat informatie alleen op “bepaalde” internetsites stond.

Dit zijn misschien de sites die er altijd bij vertellen dat de "mainstream media" en journalisten het af laten weten of het niet goed doen. Daarmee bedoelen ze natuurlijk: "hier moet u zijn voor de waarheid", maar dat is op zulk soort sites ook altijd nog maar helemaal de vraag. Ook De Volkskrant, Trouw en het Agrarisch Dagblad besteden er al een hele tijd aandacht aan.
