Yemeni plane crashes off Comoros with 153 on board
An Airbus A310-300 from Yemen with 153 people on board, including 66 French nationals, crashed into the sea off the Indian Ocean archipelago of Comoros as it approached in bad weather early on Tuesday, officials said.
Reuters reports: “A doctor in the Comoros told Reuters a child had been plucked alive from the sea and was being taken to a medical center. The manager of the international airport in Moroni said the child was five. He said five bodies had also been found.”
The plane, which was flying the final leg of a trip from Paris and Marseille to Comoros via Yemen.

De Wu Tai Shan is opgenomen op de Werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO. De heilige boeddhistische berg is getuige van eeuwenlange Boeddhistische geschiedenis. De tempels op de berg werden gebouwd tussen de 1e eeuw na Christus en de 20ste eeuw.
De UNESCO meldt: “Buddhist temples on the mountain were built between the 1st century AD and the early 20th century. Overall, the buildings on the site present a catalogue of the way Buddhist architecture developed and influenced palace building in China over more than a millennium”
Het Chinese persbureau Xinhua bericht uit de provinciehoofdstad Taiyuan: “A sacred mountain in China that has been witness to centuries of Buddhist history was added Friday (Beijing Time) to UNESCO's World Heritage List during the 33rd session of the World Heritage Committee in Seville, Spain.”

Dutch supermarkets are hoping to phase out the use of cash by 2014, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Thursday, quoting the retail board CBL.
The aim of the ban on cash is to make supermarkets less vulnerable to armed robberies, the paper says. Other solutions will be found for customers who do not want to use direct debit cards, a CBL spokesman said.

L'Aquila in Italië getroffen door aardbeving, bijna 100 doden geteld
Het aantal dodelijke slachtoffers van de zware aardbeving in het Italiaanse L’Aquila is opgelopen tot 90. Er zijn honderden gewonden gevallen. Duizenden mensen zijn dakloos.
Veel gebouwen zijn ingestort De noodtoestand is uitgeroepen. Naar verluidt komt de hulpverlening goed op gang.
